Spring is Here Weekend Fishing Report

Spring has Finally Arrived

Nice weather is on the horizon and spring is here to stay on the Madison River.  Let’s hope.  We are looking at a week full of nice spring like weather  and the fishing will go off. If you are around and fishing right now do it.   Runoff will be a long one this year and we will be locked out of the good stuff soon.  Our guides are full swing doing spring special guided float trips. If you get a chance jump on one of them you will have a great time.

What to fish

If you’r out right now think underwater first.  We have been having good luck on the Madison with nymph rigs. We have been liking spaghetti  and meat balls. The old egg and worm combo. This has been bread and butter for us as of late.  Fish this on a stiff 2X leader. We like pink worms and peach eggs.  Just us.  Try them all.   If that is not working think tiny and shiny.  BWO mayflies are starting and the nymphs are in the soup.   Fish tight bodied shiny mayfly nymphs. We like the new jig stuff.  Good hook ups and less rocks.  Try them you will like them.  You can always fish a stone fly and catch fish.  We have been liking the hurless stone as of late. The grey color is the same as the skwala nymphs in the soup.  Plus it has the flash back that makes it sexy.

Dry Fly

If you’r looking for dry fly fishing get ready. If we get a day with cloud cover it is game on. Lots of BWO in the soup and if we get rid of the sun you will see some heads.  Also remember March Browns and Caddis are right around the corner. Get your dry fly rod ready it will be of use soon.  Blind fishing with a skwala dry and dropper will find a few.  Keep at it and you will be rewarded.

Streamer Madness?

Is it time for the 7 wt?  Not quite yet. The water needs to warm up a few more degrees and the streamer fishing will be off the hook.  Forget about the double articulated shit.  That stuff is for want to be fishing influencers and psysdo fly celebrities .  We all know them.   We like the smaller stuff that actually works.   Olive sculpins and sparkle minnows will keep you bent far longer than the big stuff.

Lost of good stuff happening on the Madison River right now. Get out and fish.   Stop by the store and check out all the new gear.  Riley in the store has been stocking new stuff all week and the latest and greatest is ready for you to test out.
