With the Big weekend ahead the Madison River is coming into shape and is ready. We currently have good clarity of about 16 inches and a flow of about 2700 CFS at Varney Bridge. Best part about this is that most of the salmon fly nymphs and goldens are lining up on the bank. This means the big party is just around the corner. Will it happen this weekend is anyones guess but it is close. Yes the river is high but plenty fishable. Just be careful floating as low bridges and rocks come up quick. Even experienced oarsmen need to pay attention at this water level.
We have been having the best luck with rubber leg stone fly stuff as well as caddis emergers. Each and every evening there is an epic caddis hatch that we have even caught some on dries. Putting some movement to your emerger is key especially in the evening when the fish are keying on them.
If your a streamer guy throw some meat. The off colored water is perfect for throwing the big bugs and reports of some really big fish being landed. Dark colors of black and olive have been the best lately.
Salmon flies are almost here and it is going to get crazy. Get out this weekend and catch a few before the salmon fly madness comes to the Madison River. When it does hit we have a complete selection of salmon and golden dry and nymphs just waiting to get wet.
