The Madison River has dropped and cleared significantly over the last week and the salmon fly hatch is in full swing. Today our guides fished salmon fly dries from Windy Point all the way down below Varney Bridge. There is no better time to fish the Madison than right now if your looking for dry fly fishing. Salmon fly, caddis, golden stones, yellow sallies and PMD are all on the menu and the fish are eating them all. The point of the salmon fly hatch is right now above Pallisades around Windy Point and will be at Lyons Bridge shortly. The fish are looking at them hard below Pallisades. Keep a dropper nymph or a caddis dry behind your salmon fly to double the takes.
If you nymphing a pats with a yellow sallie or a prince has been money for the last few days. The river is now low enough that you do not need weight just the weighted flies to get down. Keep fishing the shallow stuff as the biggest fish we have been taking have been in really shallow water. If your here on the Madison River now enjoy the next few days of great fishing with big dry flies.
Have a huge selection of dry flies for salmon flies, goldens, caddis PMD’s as well as all the nymphs you will need.
