Fly SelectionTry PMD's, Caddis and Yellow Sallys.Try Caddis, PMD's and BWO's to rising trout.Try throwing ants, hoppers and Spruce moths patterns.Try a Turk's Tarantula, Gould's Hopper or Spruce Moth on the surface, and The Fly fka The Prince and Kyle's Yellow Sally below, to bring up big trout !Try a Pat's Brown Rubber Legs, Girdle Bug or Bitch Creek, followed by a small bright beadhead nymph.
Water ConditionsThe river is fully open but the flow decreasing below normal for this time of year.Flows are back to normal and the river is still fishable.Water flow is decreasing rapidly, but no river closure has been announced.Flows are back to normal, water clarity is great, and fishing has been awesome. Both float and wade fishing are back to normal, with fisherman enjoying the entire Upper Madison.Water flow is deceasing; time to head to the Upper Madison.
Fishing TipsTry throwing some Caddis to rising fish, or head to the Upper Madison which is now in great shape.Stick with small bright nymphs and fish the greener areas of water near the banks and around the deep mid-stream holes.Time to try terrestrials, or head over to the Madison River.The fishing is now some of the best reported in years; guides are swearing to 12 - 20 large fish per rod or better, and the pictures coming in of Browns over 20" prove it ! Hit the Madison !Fish the Lower Madison in the early hours or early evenings, to avoid the "tubers". Best fishing is now happening on the Upper River.
